How WhatsApp is used in Thailand

Thailand has the lowest rates in this Asian group but the same competitive problem as Vietnam: LINE is the dominant domestic messenger. WhatsApp is worth running for tourism, hospitality and cross-border sellers whose customers arrive from elsewhere. For those use cases the pricing is genuinely cheap.

Which other markets share this price

Meta bills every country in “Rest of Asia Pacific” at the same rate, so these markets cost exactly the same to message as Thailand: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan , and others.

Frequently asked questions

Does WhatsApp make sense in Thailand given LINE's dominance?

For domestic consumer marketing, rarely. For inbound tourism, hospitality and cross-border e-commerce it makes a lot of sense, because your customers are already on WhatsApp before they arrive.

Does my own country matter, or only Thailand?

Only your customer's. Billing follows the recipient's country code, so a business anywhere pays the Thailand rate to message a Thailand number.

What is free when messaging Thailand?

Replies inside the 24-hour customer service window cost nothing. The window opens whenever a customer messages you and resets on every new message from them, so a support-led setup can run at a fraction of a campaign-led one.

Why is there no separate Thailand rate?

Meta prices about thirty markets individually and groups the rest into regions. Thailand sits in “Rest of Asia Pacific”, so that regional rate is the actual price you are charged — there is no separate Thailand line on the rate card.
